STEEL BUILDING WALK DOORS
Every part of a steel building contributes evenly to its functionality. From ridge vents to exteriors, every piece is essential. For this reason, even the task of choosing walk doors, should not be neglected. Nowadays, there are numerous varieties to consider in the market. Manufacturers commonly offer two types of walk doors: the pre-assembled and "knock down", or field-assembled.
Steel Building Walk Door Information
Pre-assembled Armstrong walk doors are designed to fit its function specifically for your Armstrong brand steel building. For one, the insulated foam contained in every door matches that of your Armstrong building’s insulation system. From the term "pre-assembled", that already implies ease of installation; not to mention that Armstrong walk doors are also "self-framing", that is, they require no framed opening as long as the standard girt spacing is applied. The walk door practically puts itself onto a wall like a puzzle piece. Most manufacturers have walk doors keyed alike for every project.
Armstrong's knock down/field assembled walk doors, are likewise specially designed and insulated for your steel building. Usually, these types of walk doors are shipped knocked down enclosed in poly bag and cardboard carton. By standard, most of these walk doors are offered with Grade 2 lever locks.
Both the pre-assembled and the knock down walk doors can be customized with accessories. Usually, there are panic levers compatible with standard locksets. Grade 1 lever locks are also available, even when knock down walk doors come with Grade 2, more often than not.
Standard walk doors are "field assembled" or, in other terms, "field located." This simply means that walk doors are not included in the primary design of the steel building. By standard practice, walk doors can be installed virtually on any section of a wall, just as long as the following points are considered: the said section should have no obstructions of any sort, such as a column or bracing cables. Installing walk doors in one section without first informing your project coordinator can have a negative effect on the buildings structural integrity. Hence, careful planning and full disclosure with your project coordinator are still a must.
For some purposes, the position of the walk door is critical. In such cases, the exact location, column, and cable placements must be defined and checked. Nevertheless, installation of walk doors is fairly simple. And more often than not, the manufacturer provides all necessary materials completely with every order.
After deciding on assembly type, there are still other options to consider. Steel building door selections include the following:
1. Single walk door – in other words, this is the "Standard Door", plain but functional.
2. Narrow light opening for glass – a variation of the single walk door, this type can be modified with a "glass" of choice.
3. Single half open for glass – also a variation of the single walk door, "half open" means the free space is a square-shaped opening occupying roughly half of the door.
4. Double doors – can be modified to hold glass, half open or narrow light opening.
Walk doors can be customised with tempered, wire, or insulated glass – these are widely available in the market – to enhance and fit the desired look of your commercial steel building.
